Black Women Songwriters Discuss Their Craft

New America Now, Audio, Sandip Roy Posted: Apr 07, 2010

Editor's Note: Lena Horne broke the mold for many black women in entertainment. But this mold must continue to be broken. Lashonda Barnett interviewed twenty black women songwriters for her book, I Got Thunder: Black Women Songwriters on Their Craft. Chaka Khan, Dionne Warwick, Shirley Caesar, Dianne Reeves, Nina Simone, and Miriam Makeba are among the musicians discussing their songwriting craft.

Lashonda Barnett spoke with Sandip Roy in 2008.
