Sotomayor Hearings to Begin Soon

La Opinin, Posted: Jun 10, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Sen. Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced today that confirmation hearings for Sonia Sotomayor will begin July 13, reports La Opinin. There had been rumors suggesting that Sotomayors hearings would not begin until September, the news report said.

In a statement, Leahy asserted that it was unfair that Sotomayors critics called her a racist without giving her chance to respond. He said that he wanted to be as "fair as possible with Sotomayor, and give her the closest opportunity to respond to attacks made against her character."
