Study: Crime by Undocumented Immigrants Low

China Press, news, Posted: Jul 01, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. According to a new study released by the Sutherland Institute, illegal immigrants are not the source of crimes, even though they might have entered the country illegally. China Press reports that the study, which surveyed jails in Utah, found the number of undocumented immigrant criminals in the state jail slightly increased from 280 to 308 in the last four years, while the illegal immigrant population in Utah grew from 70,000 to 110,000. The crime rates for undocumented immigrants is actually dropping. While undocumented immigrants account for 3.9 percent of Utah's crime rate, they represent 4 percent of the general population.

Your published "findings" on illegal immigrant crime in Utah are a complete twisting of facts. Now that the Deseret News has cited your dishonest "research" in its editorial, a great disservice has been done to Utahns. The citizens of Utah deserve to be told the truth on high criminality and arrests among illegals - by Sutherland and by the Deseret News.

I hope Sutherland will publish a corrected study with a true representation of the number CRIMES AND ARRESTS involving illegals in Utah. I would also appreciate someone at Sutherland Institute responding to my emails.

No here's what I am saying....

I am as qualified as anyone to remark on a study based from Malaysia for research in Utah of a highly pro-illegal immigrant "institute"; one that offers no supporting documentation whatsoever. If you want to bully posters into your own deluded fact-check; go crazy. It does not prove you are correct.

here's a stat for you:

On August 6, 2008, an audit done by agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement found that 137 of the 637 jail inmates in the Lake County, Illinois jail were illegal immigrants. According to Lake County sheriff Mark Curran, illegal immigrants were charged with half of the 14 murders in the county.

BTW...we are talking about stats....(A stat we don't have for starts in the number of illegal immigrants work and reside here). This adds to chaos on the issue, but I assure you; that is by design...

Please define "supported completely" and "much lower". Opinions are not stats.

So Nativessayno, what you are really saying is that the China Press could be wrong and the rate of crime by illegal immigrants could be a lot lower. Or are you saying that you have conducted your own study and are therefore the expert? I don't think you are qualified to judge this or any study. Nationwide studies show that undocumented immigrants have a much lower crime rate than the rest of the population, so their point is supported completely.

The Sutherland Institute also states in its own web page:

""If a person of good will comes to our state looking to make Utah a better place to live, work and raise a family, then we should welcome that person from wherever and however they come to us."" Really?

Are you actually recognizing this institute as an objective and impartial group on this subject?

The China Press; obvious experts(?) on illegal immigration in Utah and the US fail to cite actual critical data on their so-called study to support the claim in this one paragraph report.

Relevant facts like who and where this collected data clearly originates from. Surveyed jails by whom, which jail, how comprehensive, how documented, who participated in their survey?....

Surveys and polls cited on this url are not made more convincing by using non-supported claims which lead to the same pro-illegal immigration conclusions every time.
