Chinese Elders Suffer from Health Care Budget Cuts

China Press, Posted: Jan 11, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO More than 100 San Francisco residents packed into a city hall meeting Tuesday to protest against recent cuts to the citys health care budget. Among them were more than 20 caregivers, patients and their families from Laguna Honda Hospital, the China Press reports. They said at least 90 elderly patients will lose government-sponsored health care services after Feb. 20, and about 60 percent of them are Chinese Americans. Miaoling Huang, a caregiver from the hospital, said the budget cuts are unavoidable, but they hope the government will give the elders more time to find help.
