Editor's Note: The 2007 Sunrise Ceremony at Alcatraz celebrated a new landmark in the history of the American Indian Movement. After years of struggle and negotiation, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in September. An overwhelming majority of 143 nation-states voted in favor, four states - Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States - voted against it, 11 abstained. New America Media's Michael Siv and Amir Soltani documented the celebration.
