Jews Poised to Increase Numbers in Congress

The Jewish Daily Forward, Posted: Oct 18, 2008

NEW YORK With 13 Jewish candidates up for election in November, there will be substantial gains in the numbers of Jews in Congress even if all 13 are not elected, reports the Jewish Daily Forward. All but three are Democrats whose chances for election improved, given the dire economic climate. Foreign policy and support for Israel are taking a back seat to platforms emphasizing economic development and opportunities for middle and lower income families. Although Jews make up only two percent of the population, Jewish lawmakers represent nearly 10 percent of Congress.
