First City in Bay Area with Majority Chinese American City Council

CUPERTINO, Calif. — The election of Barry Chang to Cupertino’s city council on Tuesday night made Cupertino the first city in the San Francisco Bay Area in which Chinese Americans make up the majority of the city council, reports the World Journal. Chang, along with Kris Wang and Gilbert Wong, is the third Chinese American council member in the five-member city chamber. Welcomed by his new colleagues, Chang promised to work hard for the city’s future. Kris Wang was re-elected mayor and Gilbert Wong was elected vice mayor. Wang said she would strongly promote the green economy during her term.
