Dancing through Southeast Asia

New America Now, Audio, Sandip Roy Posted: Mar 17, 2010

Editor's Note: Can a dance beat set to the music of Laurie Anderson mean anything to a dancer in Indonesia? Would the freewheeling chamber music of the Tin Hat Trio resonate with dancers in Mandelay? The ODC Dance company just had the chance to find out. They were one of only three dance companies chosen by the State Department to be cultural ambassadors for the U.S. to share the story of American dance with international audiences. Brenda Way, the founder of ODC, just returned from the tour that took them through Indonesia, Burma and Thailand.

ODC Downtown will be at Yerba Buena's Novellus Theater from March 12th through March 28th. Click here for tickets.
