ICE Launches New Program to Deport Illegal Immigrants

Latino Poltico, Posted: Aug 02, 2008

NEW YORK The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced a new program Thursday to urge illegal immigrants who don't have a criminal record and have been notified to leave, to leave United States. The program named "Operation Scheduled Departure" has asked illegal immigrants in five cities to deliver themselves to ICE between August 5 to 22, reported the World Journal. Some of those who turn themselves in will be tracked by electronic devices until they leave the United States. After the two-week trial period, ICE will decide if they will keep the program and extend it to cover a larger region.
