Obama Campaign Appeals to Arab Americans

Arab American News, Posted: Sep 18, 2008

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.Obama campaign officials recently met with Arab Americans in a town hall forum to win their support, reports the Arab American News. Obama's foreign policy adviser Susan Rice and national political director Patrick Gaspard said the campaign has a list of positions specifically for Arab American constituents. They presented "Barack Obama and the Arab American Community," a plan promising tax help for small businesses, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and immediate attention to Middle East conflicts. Rice reminded Arab Americans of Obama's opposition to the Iraq War. She also reassured them that "a democratic Palestinian state and a Jewish state living side by side in peace and security," would be a top priority for Obama. "We want to not only win, we want to win with you," Gaspard told them. Michigan is a key swing state in the upcoming presidential elections and has the second largest population of Arab-Americans.
