Chinese Primary and Secondary Education Is Now Free

SAN FRANCISCO Sept. 1st is the first day of the school year in China, and this fall, Chinas nine-year compulsory education will be free of charge to all students, the Ming Pao Daily reports. The 28,210,000 students in 25,900 primary and junior high schools across China will now receive a free education. Before this new policy, the World Journal reports that each student paid 190 to 350 RMB (28 to 52 US dollars) per school year.
