This week on "Stories From the Ethnic Media": More African-American Veterans are homeless; and legislators tighten abortion funds.
The healthcare reform bill is headed to the Senate. In order for it to pass the House, Democrats were forced to make concessions on insurance coverage for abortions. Lawmakers who oppose this amendment want to reverse it in the Senate. The editorial board of El Diario La Prensa newspaper in New York agrees. They published an editorial denouncing the House amendment. Metro editor Eva Sanchis explains if it passes, this amendment will seriously hurt Hispanic women;
and, The Afro American Newspapers reports on the latest study of homeless Americans, by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, a prominent advocacy and research organization in Washington DC. Executive editor Talibah Chikwendu was shocked by the ethnic breakdown of the estimated 131,000 homeless war veterans.
