MSNBC Favorite News Channels for Blacks

Posted: Jan 10, 2013

Fox News remains the most-watched cable news network, but it ranks a lot less than No. 1 with African-Americans, who watched MSNBC in huge numbers during 2012.

Media watchdog Mediate.com reports that MSNBC “made astonishing gains with their already-large African American Audience, growing that audience by 60.5 percent” for the nightly, 8-11 p.m. time slot.

MSNBC, the most left-leaning of all the news network, has become a favorite of African-Americans, largely at the expense of CNN. Although CNN grew its black audience by 23.7 percent in 2012, MSNBC had more African-American viewers than CNN and Fox News combined, according to Mediate. MSNBC’s black audience grew from 177,000 in 2011 to 284,000 in 2012. CNN’s black audience increased from 131,000 in 2011 to 162,000.

Fox News saw its black audience (who are these people?) decline from 38,000 in 2011 to 29,000 in 2012.
