Salvation Army Scoops Up Foreclosed Home Contents

La Opinin, Claudia Nuez Posted: Feb 21, 2010

LOS ANGELES-- Salvation Army employees in the area of Inland Empire are working daily to pick up the furniture and belongings of foreclosed homes that have been evicted, according to a report from La Opinin.

In 2009, more than 35,000 houses went into foreclosure in that area. With over 1,300 stores of used items across the country, the Salvation Army has registered an increase in furniture and merchandise obtained due to evictions.

Even though you have the letters for your eviction, you never imagine that the day would arrive, said Olga Zermeo a homeowner who lost her house and about half of her belongings when the police come to evict her in Moreno Valley. In 2009, the San Bernardino Sheriffs Office executed 13,189 evictions, reported the daily.
