Mexican Emigration Dropped 42 Percent in Two Years

La Opinin, Posted: Nov 21, 2008

MEXICO CITY -- In the last two years, the migration of Mexicans dropped 42.3 percent, reports La Opinin. A report released Thursday by the National Statistics and Geography Institute found that 1.2 million Mexicans emigrated in 2006, compared to 814,000 Mexicans in 2007. The abrupt drop coincides with the global financial crisis and the highest U.S. unemployment in 14 years, as well as raids against undocumented workers and strengthening of U.S. border enforcement.
