The Arab American News, News Report , Posted: Jan 30, 2010

DEARBORN, Mich.An Arab-American who was scheduled to be deported to Jordan last week has been granted a deportation extension, reports The Arab American News. Anees Sous, of Hamtramck, a district within Detroit, who has been in the United States for 27 years, came from the Palestinian West Bank on a student visa in 1982 and has six U.S.-born children ages 7 to 21. Last week, Sous's lawyer notified him that U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) convinced local Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to grant Sous another 30 days in the U.S. According to the news report, the community came together for a spontaneous campaign raising awareness of Souss situation through emails, calls and dissemination of his story. I think thats what caused officials to pay attention to the case. It shows that when we mobilize with a focus, a difference can be made, asserted American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Regional Director Imad Hamad.
