New America Media and KQED invite you to join us to honor the outstanding journalism work of ethnic media journalists and news organizations for The 2011/2012 NAM Ethnic Media Awards for Northern California and the Central Valley Awards Gala on July 19, 2012.

It is a privilege for NAM to partner with our long-time collaborator, KQED, which will host our Awards Gala at their San Francisco studios. We are honored to have Bay Area journalism icon, the multi-awarded TV host of KQED's "This Week in Northern California," Belva Davis as our Awards Gala emcee and honoree. More awards gala details coming soon.

And reminding all our ethnic and youth media colleagues that you have ONLY TWO MORE DAYS to send or submit your entries!

Our Extended Postmark Deadline for Entries was MAY 21st but we will still accept entries at our NAM SF office UNTIL FRIDAY MAY 25TH:

(Please disregard the May 11th postmark deadline on the forms).

We are calling for entries for work published between January 1, 2011 and March 1, 2012. Award categories include Outstanding Hyperlocal Report/Feature; Outstanding Investigative/In-Depth Story; Outstanding Community Reporting - For Radio and For Television; and Outstanding Community Blogger, among others. Award winners will receive cash prizes and a trophy or certificate.

PG&E, the founding sponsor of the awards event, is underwriting an award to the news organization to be selected by judges for Outstanding Coverage of Interracial/Inter-ethnic Relations.

NAM encourages in-language as well as English-language entries and participants are requested to include their own translations wherever possible.

For the purposes of this competition, Northern California and the Central Valley stretches from the Oregon border through Fresno.

NAM will host a Southern California Ethnic Media Awards competition and gala in the fall that will include ethnic media from Calexico to Bakersfield.
