U.S., Japanese Porn Companies Sue 10,000 S. Koreans

Korea Times, news, Posted: Aug 15, 2009

Fifty U.S.and Japanese pornography producers jointly sued 10,000 South Korean Internet users for infringing on their copyrights, reports the Korea Times. South Korean police told the newspaper Thursday that a group of 50 pornography producers in the two countries alleged that the South Koreans illegally uploaded the copyrighted films onto file-sharing Web sites and then charged subscribers for downloading them. The plaintiffs hired a local law firm in Seoul to represent them. The law firm said that its clients selected about 10,000 user IDs that are suspected of reaping business gains through their habitual uploading of foreign pornography on the Web sites. A lawyer for the filmmakers said the firm will also take legal action against some 80 file-sharing service providers for assisting in the distribution of the content.
