Newt Gingrich Launches Bilingual News Site

Latino Perspectives, Posted: Oct 10, 2009

PHOENIX -- In the frame of Hispanic Heritage Month, Gingrich Communications launched The Americano, a bilingual news and op-ed Web site aimed at conservative Latinos. The site claims to offer a more balanced view on all the issues that concern American Hispanics today, while celebrating the richness of Hispanic Heritage. A commentary in Latino Perspectives Magazine points out that last year in a speech to the National Federation of Republican Women, Gingrich said that English immersion programs should replace bilingual education so that people can learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto. The commentary, titled "How do you say pandering in espaol? Newt Gingrich knows," concludes that "Apparently, there are no language barriers or dangers when it comes to commercializing ideology." Gingrich's other Hispanic outreach site is www.newt.org/paralatinos.
