Southern California Has Record Number of Chinese Government Officials

LOS ANGELES Eight Chinese Americans won city council positions in Southern California elections this month. The Sing Tao Daily reports that there are now 22 Chinese city council members in Southern California cities, and about 50 Chinese government officials at the local and state level. In the city of Monterey Park, which has a 44 percent Chinese population, Chinese Americans constitute 80 percent of the city council seats.
