El Diario La Prensa, Posted: Aug 12, 2009

New YorkTwo bar owners in New York are facing federal charges of conspiracy, prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes, sexual abuse and illicit trafficking of immigrants, reports El Diario La Prensa.

According to the news report, Antonio Rivera and his sister, Jazmn Rivera, who both use various aliases and were owners of "Sonidos de la Frontera and La Hija del Mariachi, along with manager John Whaley, brought young Central American immigrants to their bars to work as prostitutes, and if they refused, they were threatened to be turned over to immigration services. The news report also says that Rivera is a registered sex offender for raping two minors ages 13 and 14.

Judge Michael Orenstein, who is currently overseeing the case, has ordered the three defendants be held without right to bail. If the defendants are found guilty, they could face up to 15 years in prison.
