La Opinin, Posted: Oct 23, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama is winning over Floridas Puerto Rican voters, suggests a La Opinin news report. Vanessa Roln, an 18-year-old Puerto Rican American, took advantage of early voting and voted for Obama on Monday. She told La Opinin that Obama is a good man and wants to do good for the whole country. Her mother Aida agrees. Their whole family have always been Republican, but re-registered as Democrats and plan to vote for Obama. Ramon N. Velez, a Puerto Rican-American Republican says he expects to see a big change [in Florida] this year because everyone is unhappy with Bush and the Republicans, and McCain is on the same path as Bush." Puerto Rican leaders recently urged their communities in Florida to vote for Obama. There are approximately 360,000 Puerto Ricans eligible voters in the area from Orlando to Tampa. In the last two presidential elections, Republicans won Florida's 27 electoral votes.
