Obama Speaks to Ethnic Journalists at UNITY Convention

McCain Snubs Chicago Convention of Journalists of Color

Balitang America, News Report Video, Don Tagala Posted: Jul 31, 2008

Editor's Note: "Balitang America" [News in America] of The Filipino Channel, was one of the ethnic news outlets that covered the live presidential candidates' forum hosted by CNN at the UNITY Convention in Chicago, held last July 23-27, 2008. While Sen. Barack Obama stressed to the crowd of mostly journalists of color, the key relationships he was able to forge in Europe, Sen. McCain was a no-show, citing schedule conflicts. Don Tagala talked to local Filipino journalists who believe McCain missed his chance to deliver his message to these media professionals and communities of color. UNITY is a strategic alliance of four national associations representing more than 10,000 journalists of color including: the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the Native American Journalists Association.
