MUMBAI, India - One of India's best known five star hotels, the Taj in Mumbai has been taken over by the police and Navy commandos following a terrorist attack in Mumbai reports Rediff.com. Grenades went off in the Taj Hotel in South Mumbai. There are an indeterminate number of guests still being held hostage. A fire has erupted in the old wing of the historic hotel and smoke has been spewing from the signature minaret on the top floor. At least 80 people have been killed in attacks around South Mumbai including the hotels Trident and Oberoi and other locations including just outside the Cama Hospital. Mumbai's Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare died of bullet wounds in the ongoing battle against the armed terrorists. An eye witness said the terrorists who took hostages in the hotel were looking for people with AMerican or British passports. A group called Deccan Mujaheddin has apparently claimed responsibility.
