Sing Tao Daily, news, Posted: Jun 15, 2009

LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health launched a program Wednesday named Home STD Testing. The Sing Tao Daily reports that it is the first public health campaign aimed at women at risk for sexually transmitted diseases. The program will mail a testing package to females upon request for free. According to recent statistics from the federal Centers for Disease Control, LA County had the highest number of chlamydia infections and the second highest number of gonorrhea infections in 2008. Over 60 percent of these cases are found among young women between 15 and 24 years old. And, 64 percent of all the cases are found in Latinos and African Americans. The public health department has set up a team of young women to promote the program in English and Spanish.
