California University Promotes Healthy Diet for Asian Students

Sing Tao Daily, Posted: Feb 25, 2009

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- California State University Northridge (CSUN) held an event this week called "Every Body is Beautiful," one of three events the university is organizing as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Sing Tao Daily reports. According to university counselor Ellen Mayer, 30 percent of the student population has some form of an eating disorder. Research shows that students from China, Korea and Japan, whose cultures advocate a slim body figure, are more likely to develop eating disorders, reports the Sing Tao. Mayer said she hopes that this week's events help students learn to accept their bodies and be confident about who they are.
