Editor's Note: When Iranian President Achmed Ahmadinejad made his comments at Columbia University about there being no gays in Iran, Parvez Sharma was in Toronto premiering his documentary, A Jihad for Love, about gay men and women in Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and India. Parvez Sharma traveled around the world with his camera filming the lives and loves of Muslim men and women who are trying to embrace both their faith and their sexuality. From an Imam who is out to his children in South Africa to Iranians who are waiting in Turkey hoping for asylum, this funny and heart wrenching award-winning documentary tries to present the complexity of the gay Muslim experience.
