Radio Legend Casey Kasem Retires

DEARBORN, Mich. — After 39 years working in broadcast journalism, Arab-American radio legend Casey Kasem has retired, reports The Arab American News. Kasem, 77, who is of Lebanese descent and originally named, Kemal Amin Kasem, was known for his widely successful “America’s Top 40,” which he handed over to American Idol host Ryan Seacrest in 2004. In addition, Kasem was famous for his voice talent for the Transformers cartoon show, and his role as Shaggy on Scooby Doo. He terminated his role in the third season after an episode titled “Thief in the Night,” which he perceived to be offensive towards Arabs. Kasem is also active in Arab-American politics and plans to pursue other projects, which might include a memoir.
