Most Chinese Immigrated By Seeking Political Asylum

NEW YORK A recent report from the Executive Office for Immigration Review at the Federal Judiciary shows that immigration courts received 351,000 cases in 2008, 17 percent more than in 2004 and five percent more than 2007. Among all the cases, about 47,000 were seeking political asylum, 18 percent less than 2004. Of those, 10,743 political asylum seekers got their application approved. Chinese make up 32 percent of those granted political asylum, comprising the largest group granted political asylum last year
