Obama Meets with Congressional Hispanic Caucus

El Diario/La Prensa, Posted: Mar 19, 2009

NEW YORK -- President Obama's meeting Wednesday with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus was a positive sign that the president would follow through with his promise of comprehensive immigration reform in his first year in office, reports El Diario/La Prensa. New York Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, who heads the Caucus, told the president that for Latinos and others, the plight and treatment of immigrants is the civil rights issue of our time. Although he did not discuss worksite raids, Obama committed to hosting an immigration forum soon at the White House and to working with the Caucus to present a humane, comprehensive reform agenda this year.
