Obama Still Very Popular With Latinos

LOS ANGELES -- President Barack Obama continues to be extremely popular among Latino voters nationwide, especially among naturalized citizens, according to a new poll by Impremedia, Latino Decisions and the University of New Mexico's Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The survey of 1,000 Latino voters found that 74 percent approve of the president, and that support goes even higher, up to 79 percent, among foreign-born Latinos. But the poll also indicates that these voters expect action on health care and immigration reform by next year's mid- term elections. Eight-four percent said it's important for immigration reform to be enacted by that date and 86 percent said the same about health care reform. If there is no action on these issues, Obama's support among Latinos could falter, according to Matt Barreto, a political science professor at University of Washington and a partner with Latino Decisions.
