Diabetes Rate Among Asian-American Kids Is Three Times Higher Than Those in Asia

World Journal, Posted: Mar 06, 2009

NEW YORK A University of Hawaii study found that the occurrence of diabetes among Asian-American children under 14 years old was much higher than their counterparts in Asia. The World Journal spoke to the author of the study, Beatriz Rodriguez, professor of geriatric medicine and pediatrics, who said there was no surprise that type II diabetes occurred more among American children because the disease is obesity related. The study also found that the rate of type I diabetes was three times higher among Asian Americans.
