Chinese Rush to Get Flu Shot Vaccine in SF

Sing Tao Daily, Posted: Oct 30, 2009

SAN FRANCISCOChinese residents of San Francisco rushed to get vaccinated on Thursday, the first of three days during which free H1N1 vaccines are being offered at nine clinics throughout the city. According to Sing Tao Daily, over 1,000 people showed up at the North East Medical Center in Chinatown. A mother and her 4-year-old daughter were the first ones in line. The woman said she lined up three hours before the clinic opened at 4 p.m., mainly for her daughters safety. Another woman said she took a day off from work to get in line outside Ocean Park Health Center in the Sunset neighborhood, another area populated with Chinese residents. She said she wanted to make sure her daughter and husband got the vaccine before traveling outside the country next week. Representatives from North East Medical Center said they would not restrict vaccination to the five priority groups, but they asked people who do not belong to the groups be considerate and patient.
