Solis Target of Senate Witch Hunt

La Opinin, Posted: Feb 10, 2009

LOS ANGELES An editorial in La Opinin calls it outrageous that the Senates confirmation of Rep. Hilda Solis has turned into a witch hunt. Pres. Barack Obama's nomination of Solis as secretary of the Department of Labor continues to face opposition from Republicans, who oppose her long-standing support of workers in union organizing, the editorial contends. The Senate's responsibility to confirm cabinet nominations should not be an ideological litmus test, editors write. Questions raised about her husband's business have nothing to do with her, editors write, adding that it is unacceptable to compare her situation to the serious ethical lapses of other cabinet nominees.
