El Diario/La Prensa Receives Three Awards

NEW YORK El Diario/La Prensa was honored with three awards for excellence in journalism at the Ippies, an award ceremony organized by the New York Community Media Alliance that recognizes outstanding journalism in New York's independent media. The newspaper won first place for Jos A. Rivera's photograph of the New York Police Academy graduation. It also won third place for Alex Vros's photograph of Irene Tirado, mother of Jayson Tirado, who was reportedly killed by an off-duty police officer. El Diario/La Prensa reporter Lorenzo Morales also won second place for coverage of the 2008 presidential election for his article "Evangelicals Between Faith and Deportation."
