Ca. County Calls for End to Youth Deportations

Posted: Aug 14, 2012

Ed. Note: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will begin Wednesday accepting applications for “deferred action” from young immigrants brought to the United States as children. Estimates put the number of potential applicants at over one million. While the move to temporarily halt deportations of eligible undocumented youth by the Obama administration comes as welcome news for immigrant rights advocates, deportations of those caught in the juvenile justice system continue unabated. To address the issue, residents of San Mateo County and the San Mateo County Coalition for Immigrant Rights held a forum urging the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and Probation Chief to stop referring youth to ICE.
