N.Y. Chinese Community Members Face Drug Charges

World Journal, Posted: Dec 08, 2009

NEW YORKThirty-four Chinese Americans were arrested of drug possession on Saturday at a Karaoke located in Flushing district of Queens, New York. According to the World Journal, the arrest created shock in the local Chinese community because a majority of the arrestees are well-known members of the Chinese family associations and they are charged with possessing ketamine. Zheng Qi, president of the American Fujianese Family Association, said five of his members were involved in the incident, and one of them even held an administrative position with the association. Zhu Lichuang, president of Council of Chinese-American Associations in New York, said members of family associations should serve the community, not destroy the Chinese-American image.
