Shooting at Holocaust Museum Is an Attack on Us All

La Opinin, Posted: Jun 13, 2009

LOS ANGELES -- The shooting at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday is a wake-up call of the power of racial hatred and the presence of domestic supremacist groups in our country, according to an editorial in La Opinin. The gunman, James Von Brunn, was a racist known for his anti-Jewish writings. Von Brunns action demonstrated that such hatred is not a question of freedom of thought or expression, but a time bomb waiting to explode at any moment, editors write. The Holocaust Museum commemorates a tragic page in human history that should never be forgotten, editors write, and Von Brunns action is an attack against our society at large. "We join in condemnation of this attack specifically targeting the Jewish community but against us all," editors write. "And we are reminded of the importance of memory, which should keep us always vigilant against hatred."
