MALDEF Asks Justice Dept. to Prosecute Hate-Crime Killing

La Raza, Maricarmen Amado Posted: May 10, 2009

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) launched a campaign on Wednesday, reports La Raza, to ask the U.S. Department of Justice to begin a criminal prosecution of two Pennsylvania youths for a hate crime in the death of a Mexican immigrant who died after they attacked him. A jury acquitted the two on murder charges last week. The attack involved six youth in Shenandoah and occurred in July 2008. The victim, Luis Ramrez, 25, died in a hospital two days after the assault of head injuries.
