Children of Immigrants Not Getting Health Care

La Opinion, Posted: Oct 08, 2009

A joint U.S.-Mexico study has found widespread inequalities for children of Mexican immigrants in the U.S. health care system, reports La Opinion. The study found that one out of every 15 children younger than 18 years has a parent who was born in Mexico, totaling some 6.3 million adults. Although 86 percent of the children are citizens, they still face barriers to attaining health insurance, primarily because of the socioeconomic and migratory conditions of their lives. The study concluded that more than 1.5 million of these children have no health insurance.
