Dear Colleagues,

NAM would like to alert all of our network members and invite you to apply to two upcoming awards programs on behalf of two of our key partners, the Center for California Studies at Sacramento State and KQED.

Please read below for the new extended deadlines and more information about submitting entries for the California Journalism Awards and nominations for Bay Area Local Heroes.

Call for Entries: California Journalism Awards

Extended Deadline: August 10th

The Center for California Studies is pleased to announce the call for entries for the 18th annual California Journalism awards to recognize, encourage and reward excellence in reporting of California politics, policy and issues. Entries can be a single story or program, or up to five stories or programs that represent a journalist's body of work.

The competition is open to any journalist, full-time, part-time or freelance, based in California. Entries may be submitted either by individuals or news organizations and must have been published or broadcast for the first time between January 2011 and June 2012.

The new deadline is August 10, 2012.

Awards are given in six categories: print journalism, radio journalism, television journalism, photojournalism, and student journalism.

A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the entry judged most outstanding in the print, radio, television and photo journalism categories. For more information and to apply please click here.

KQED Seeking Nominations for Bay Area Local Heroes

Extended Deadline: July 31st

September is Latino Heritage Month and KQED is seeking nominations for Bay Area Local Heroes. We are interested in individuals who have demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to community service. Please submit Bay Area Local Hero nomination forms by Tuesday, July 31st 2012.
