75 Percent of HIV Positive Hispanics Have AIDS

WASHINGTON -- Three out of four Hispanics diagnosed with HIV already have AIDS, reports El Pregonero. These statistics indicate that the Hispanic community is not being tested in time, according to Catalina Sol, director of La Clinica del Pueblo, in Washington, D.C. To help Latinos get tested and access services, her clinic partners HIV positive Hispanic patients with Spanish-speaking guides to help them navigate the health care system. The free program aims to help clients overcome cultural barriers that often prevent Latino immigrants from accessing health services. The clinic offers comprehensive medical care to area residents, Sol said, even if they don't have documents or insurance.
