Youth See Degrees as Key to Future

Nguoi-Viet, news report, Posted: Feb 17, 2009

Recent research carried out by the Institute for Educational Research (IER) at the Saigon City University of Education has found that 80 percent of high school students and 70 percent of university students pursue further study after graduation. In an effort to determine Vietnamese students attitudes about their future and their awareness of factors that may influence their lives, the study surveyed 2,000 students from 24 schools and universities in Hanoi, Saigon, Danang and Can Tho. Most young people believe that the more degrees one holds the easier it will be to find a good job. When asked about the skills necessary for a good future, most students said they would need practical skills, such as foreign languages and information technology. Slightly more than half of the students wanted to take on a part-time job to gain experience in the workforce.
