Show Me the Meat

The Jewish Daily Forward, Posted: Nov 17, 2008

SECAUCUS, N.J. Supplies of kosher meat are dwindling creating a crisis for observant Jews across the country, reports The Jewish Daily Forward.

Last week's annual kosher food industry trade show exhibited a wide range of products for kosher consumers but notably lacked kosher meat as Agriprocessors of Postville, Iowa, filed for bankruptcy. Alle Processing, now the leading supplier, has financial problems of its own and will not be able to meet consumer demands.

Smaller meat processors are stepping up production but will fall far short in taking up the slack. It may take up to a year before any semblance of normal supply is established.
