US Speedskating Coach Jae Su Chun Resigns Amid Pressure

U.S. short-track speedskating coach Jae Su Chun resigned on Thursday and has been suspended through the 2014 Winter Olympics. Chun gave up his post after reaching a settlement with the U.S. Speedskating after he was accused of physical and emotional abuse by approximately half the national team.
U.S. Speedskating’s investigation found that Chun and his assistant Jun Hyung Yeo knew U.S. skater Simon Cho tampered with a Canadian skater’s equipment at an international competition last year, but didn’t report the incident.
Yeo has also resigned and was suspended.
“We believe reaching a settlement is in the best interest of our athletes,” US Speedskating spokesperson Tamara Castellano told the Press. “[Now] we can move past this quickly and focus on the season and the Games in 2014.”
The federation also begun disciplinary proceedings against Cho, who admitted last week that he tampered with his opponent’s skate after being pressured by Chun.
