Professional Development

NAM provides ethnic media with opportunities for expanding editorial capacity and expertise through professional training and fellowships. We have partnered with institutions such as American Society of Newspaper Editors and the University of California Office of the President in order to broaden the reach of ethnic media who often don’t have the access to resources that mainstream journalists do.

NAM has forged relationships with universities and journalism associations to provide training in areas such as reporting, attracting advertising, and the digital medium. Workshops are led by leaders in the industry, whether it be a producer from a local NBC affiliate or the creator of a popular news blog.

Speakers and Instructors at professional development seminars have included:

  • Beverly White, NBC 4
  • Gabriel Lerner, La Opinion
  • Maria Garcia, Telemundo
  • Ken Wayne, KTVU
  • David Lazarus, The San Francisco Chronicle

As a member of NAM's nationwide association of ethnic media, your news organization will have preferred access to professional development seminars in your city and region.
